CAMPAIGN TO KEEP DANE ELLIS IN THE UKPLEASE SUPPORT DANE (ENVISION GRAD) IN HIS APPEAL TO STAY IN THE UK. 22year old Dane Ellis, ex Envision student, volunteer and community leader is being sent back to Jamaica: leaving his mum, siblings and pursuit of his chosen career behind. The judge claims this is not a breach of Human Rights even though Dane is an exemplar contributor to society on many levels and is devastated by the news. The UK needs people like Dane. We want him to stay and suggest taking him away from his personal and professional life is breaching his very right of what it is to be human. What you can do? Sign the petition.
More information The court ruling has ordered that Dane leave the UK by 21st December forcing him to leave behind his mother and three siblings, his brewing career and his visions for the future. With just 24 hours to challenge the decision and with the holiday season fast approaching Dane faces a daunting task - returning to a country where he has no family, no community and no prospect of pursuing the career he has worked and trained so hard for.
Dane is no ordinary guy. As a student at ADT College he was an outgoing and active member of the student leadership body. During his time there, Dane became a young volunteer with youth charity Envision donating 2 hours of his time a week to develop and deliver a project aimed at transforming the attitudes towards young people in his local area. His project successfully challenged the negative stereotypes of young people and won the attention of BBC London News who featured Dane and his project team in May 2005. In Dane's own words: "I have now been in the UK for eight years, including four years of Discretionary Leave, and the rest of the time spent waiting for decisions from the Home Office. Despite having been educated here from GCSE to degree level, and played a full part in British society, I am currently unable to work and pursue the career path I have worked extremely hard to qualify for. The Home Office position is currently that I must return to Jamaica to apply for appropriate entry clearance to return to the UK . However, after such a long time, I do not perceive Jamaica as my home, and my academic qualifications and choice of career are less relevant there. It therefore seems nonsensical to go to Jamaica to apply to stay in the UK that has already been my home for eight years, where I have grown up and been educated and where my immediate and extended family and friends remain. I would be deeply hurt if I were to be broken away from my family and social unit. Furthermore, owing to these current circumstances, as well as currently being unable to work in the UK , I will also find it difficult to support a short-term stay in Jamaica (i.e find work and accommodation) simply to apply to come back to my home in the UK" . Please sign the petition below in support of Dane and his application. We would massively appreciate it. View Signatures without signing
